CBI arrests two EPFO officials and three others in a ₹10 lakh bribery case involving a businessman. Cash recovered
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) officers in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan for allegedly taking a ₹10 lakh bribe from a businessman to settle a provident fund demand matter.
The officers were arrested after a consultant and middleman, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, was arrested while taking ₹5 lakh in cash and a self-cheque for ₹5 lakh on their behalf during a trap operation.
The CBI received a complaint from a businessman that Bhatti had demanded a bribe of ₹10 lakh through Yadav for himself and other senior EPFO officers to settle the pending provident fund demand.
Ferther, The CBI conducted a raid on the premises of Mr. Yadav, who was arrested while receiving a bribe amount. The agency also searched the residential and official premises of the accused at seven locations in Solan, Shimla, and Chandigarh. Cash of approximately ₹23.5 lakh and incriminating documents were recovered from the regional provident fund commissioner’s premises in Chandigarh.
