Equity inflows reach a record high thanks to new multi-cap, theme mutual funds.
In June, equity mutual fund inflows hit a new high, driven by the inflows into nine new multi-cap and thematic fund schemes. The equity inflows rose by 17% to Rs 40,608.2 crore, compared to Rs 34,697 crore in May. However, the overall net flows recorded an outflow of Rs 43,636.5 crore, in contrast to the inflow of Rs 1.11 lakh crore in May, as debt funds saw a decline in inflows.
The segment-wise performance showed that small-cap funds had inflows of Rs 2,263.5 crore, down from Rs 2,724.7 crore in the previous month. Mid-cap schemes attracted Rs 2,527.84 crore, slightly lower than the Rs 2,605.7 crore in May. Meanwhile, large-cap funds saw an increase in inflows, rising to Rs 970.4 crore from Rs 663.1 crore. Multi-cap funds experienced a significant jump in inflows, reaching Rs 4,708.57 crore compared to Rs 2,644.9 crore in the preceding month.
The launch of nine new thematic and sectoral fund schemes contributed Rs 12,974 crore, accounting for 58% of the total fund inflows. Additionally, a new multi-cap fund garnered Rs 1,051 crore during June. Conversely, liquid funds recorded an outflow of Rs 80,354 crore.
During the reviewed period, there was an influx of around Rs 25,873.4 crore, which was a contrast to the previous month. Credit-risk funds experienced an outflow of Rs 478.40 crore, a decrease from the Rs 540.5 crore withdrawn in the previous month. The overall debt-oriented funds saw a substantial outflow of approximately Rs 1.07 lakh crore, in comparison to the inflow of Rs 42,295 crore in the preceding month.
The mutual fund industry witnessed a net outflow of Rs 43,636.5 crore during June, a significant contrast to the inflow of Rs 1.11 lakh crore in the prior month. However, the net assets under management increased from Rs 58.9 lakh crore in May to Rs 61.2 lakh crore in June. Notably, equity mutual fund inflows surged to a new record high in June, driven by the introduction of nine new fund-offer schemes in the multi-cap and thematic fund segments. These new schemes contributed a substantial 58% or Rs 12,974 crore to the total fund inflows.
Remarkable progress was made in a remarkably short time frame of merely half a year.
