U.S. Visa Waiver Program: 41 Countries Eligible for 90-Day Visa-Free Travel
The United States continues to offer visa-free entry to citizens of 41 countries under its Visa Waiver Program (VWP), allowing short-term stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes. This initiative simplifies travel while maintaining security measures, benefiting millions of international visitors annually.
Eligible travelers must obtain Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval before boarding a U.S.-bound flight. The VWP operates on a reciprocal basis, meaning participating nations also grant U.S. citizens visa-free access for similar durations.
The list of eligible countries includes the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Germany, France, South Korea, and Singapore, among others. However, India is not included in the program, requiring Indian citizens to apply for a B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourist) visa through standard procedures.
While the VWP facilitates seamless travel, certain restrictions apply. Individuals who have visited Iran, North Korea, Cuba, or other specified nations in recent years may be required to apply for a visa instead. Additionally, dual nationals of restricted countries are ineligible for visa-free entry under the program.
The Visa Waiver Program plays a crucial role in boosting tourism and business exchanges, with VWP travelers contributing billions of dollars to the U.S. economy annually. As global travel dynamics evolve, the program remains a key component of America’s international mobility framework.
