BSE will stop offering weekly contracts for Sensex 50 and Bankex
Once an existing unexpired contract expires, no new weekly contracts will be generated. According to the BSE’s announcement, existing contracts that have not yet expired will continue until they do. With effect from November 14 at the latest, the weekly index derivatives contracts on the Sensex 50 will be terminated, and on November 18, Bankex will also terminate.
The BSE declared on Thursday that, by mid-November, it will remove the Bankex and Sensex 50 futures from the weekly contracts that the exchange offers. The action was taken in response to Sebi’s announcement on Tuesday that each exchange would only be permitted to offer weekly expiry derivatives contracts for one of its benchmark indices. As directed by the regulator, the exchange would continue to offer just the current Sensex weekly contracts.
With effect from November 14 at the latest, the weekly index derivatives contracts on the Sensex 50 will be terminated, and on November 18, Bankex will also be terminated. Once a current contract expires, no new weekly contracts will be generated. Contracts that are still in effect shall be honored until their respective expirations,” BSE stated.
